Recently, at the China Medical Equipment Conference and the 27th Annual Academic & Technical Exchange Meeting held in Suzhou, Xin Guobin, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, stated that the MIIT is actively collaborating with relevant departments to promote the development of AI-powered medical devices.

Xin Guobin pointed out that the integration of advanced technologies with artificial intelligence will establish a strategic high ground for the future development of the medical field, becoming a crucial direction for medical equipment enterprises to drive innovation, reshape their value chains, and achieve sustainable growth. Currently, under the combined influence of market dynamics and supportive policies, medical equipment is accelerating its transformation toward digitalization, precision, and intelligent solutions. As a result, cutting-edge medical products deeply integrated with AI—such as electronic health record systems, remote healthcare platforms, high-end medical imaging devices, and surgical robots—are continuously emerging. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) is collaborating closely with relevant departments to strengthen top-level design, build a comprehensive policy framework, and steadily consolidate the foundation for industry development. This effort aims to guide enterprises in speeding up R&D of new products and promoting the widespread adoption of AI technologies in the medical equipment sector. At the same time, MIIT is actively fostering collaborative platforms to better connect supply and demand. Last year, for instance, MIIT facilitated the establishment of an Orthopedic Surgical Robot Application Center by Beijing Jishuitan Hospital and 20 other leading hospitals, working together with industry partners to explore and develop standardized technical guidelines and clinical application protocols. Additionally, MIIT is advancing initiatives that promote coordinated efforts between central and local governments, as well as military-civilian integration, laying the groundwork for an increasingly interconnected ecosystem where industry and application sectors seamlessly converge.

Xin Guobin also pointed out that currently, China's overall level of artificial intelligence technology still lags significantly behind developed countries. He emphasized that AI technology could become a strategic breakthrough to drive the future development of medical equipment. Therefore, it is essential to take measures such as boosting innovation, expanding applications, establishing standards, and cultivating talent—steps that will help companies transition from following others to keeping pace with them, and eventually leading the way in this transformative shift.
