To strengthen the organizational support and research backing for implementing the nation's new-generation artificial intelligence development plan, the Ministry of Science and Technology has established the New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Research Center (hereafter referred to as the Research Center). The Research Center is anchored by the China Science and Technology Information Institute and the China Institute for Science and Technology Policy, while also maintaining extensive connections with scholars and industry leaders in the AI field. Its primary goal is to provide advisory recommendations on AI development strategies and cutting-edge technological directions. At the seminar, experts including Zhou Zhihua, Chen Yunji, Wang Xiaogang, Zeng Yi, Zhou Bowen, Shi Yaoyun, Zhang Minling, Yin Shouyi, Cha Zhengjun, Tang Ke, and others engaged in lively discussions on emerging AI trends and key development areas such as machine learning, intelligent chips, computer vision, brain-inspired intelligence, and quantum intelligence.
Vice Minister Li Meng stated that establishing the research center is a crucial step in advancing China's artificial intelligence development. She expressed hope that the center will further strengthen its sense of mission and urgency, enhance long-term, continuous monitoring and analysis, promptly assess broader trends, and bolster its strategic and policy reserves. Additionally, she urged the center to leverage resources from various think tanks, creating a highly influential AI research collaboration platform that pools collective expertise. By focusing on key issues aligned with strategic goals, the center should sustain its research efforts, producing high-quality outcomes that empower China to seize critical AI opportunities and drive a comprehensive leap forward in national competitiveness.
Officials from relevant departments and units of the Ministry of Science and Technology, along with researchers from the Next-Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Research Center, attended the meeting.
